Couple of weeks back, I was in preparation for a small script which would help me in import the user thumbnail into Active Directory. Fortunately, I received an email showcasing about one such free product from Exclaimer “Exclaimer Outlook Photos”. This software is Simply Superb, and I confidently can say that you never need to look for any other tool to manage your outlook photos. Exclaimer Outlook Photos lets you import photos into the Active Directory to give everyone a photo portrait in the Outlook People Pane, their SharePoint profile and on Microsoft Lync. The software is a complete package with immense range of GUI Management features such as view, import, edit etc. Highlight: Outlook Photos is completely free. You get full functionality the moment you download: no license keys or no paid set-up. There is also no need to install it on your Domain Controller or Exchange server. Plus,…
Does that title sum up your day? Do you spend too much time fielding users’ calls about why Exchange is so slow? Do you send out daily emails pleading with users to reduce the size of their mailbox? Do you run daily restores to bring back messages from the dead? Do you have problems completing backups in the time allotted? Can you repair a PST file in your sleep? Have you ever tried to figure out which files under c:\windows you could do without, or what log files are safe to delete? If you answered yes to even one of those questions, you’re probably dealing with an Exchange Server that hovers right at the edge of being out of space. Exchange performance will fall off a cliff when you start to run out of disk space, but users are not only unwilling to delete old email - they’ll insist that…
GFI Software has a cloud-based solution for anti-spam, anti-malware, anti-phishing and more. It’s called GFI MailEssentials Complete Online (MEO) and it promises to save you money, give your business email continuity, and protect your mailboxes better than you can do it yourself. With the bar set so high, we wanted to give MEO a try to see if it lived up to the hype. Getting started MEO offers a free 30-day-trial, and implementing the service is incredibly easy, so the try before you buy approach works well here. MEO can filter both your inbound and your outbound mail, so there are two steps you need to take. Once you sign up for a trial, reconfigure your MX records to point to MEO, and configure your outbound mail to use MEO as a smart host. That’s it. With two simple configuration changes that won’t even interrupt message flow, you are up…
If there’s one thing an Exchange admin is used to doing, it’s monitoring disk utilization on their mailbox servers. Users hoard email like gold, and as mailbox databases increase in size, backups take longer, restores can exceed recovery time objectives (RTO), and servers can run out of disk space. Admins might look to quotas to reign in runaway mailbox sizes, but those that implement quotas soon find that all this does is force users to move email to PST files, which brings a whole new crop of problems. Performance problems, corrupt files, and data loss all pop up, all that email is still consuming disk space; they’ve simply shifted the load from the mailbox servers to the fileservers. Fortunately, there’s a better answer to the problem of email storage. Email archiving can solve all of these issues without introducing any of the problems associated with other ways to manage email…
